Children with Diabetes is an Ohio-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing education and support to families living with type 1 diabetes. 

Children with Diabetes focuses on care today, so we are ready for a cure tomorrow. As an advocate and global resource, we provide support, education and inspiration to empower families and all people living with diabetes to enjoy healthy, enriched lives.

For Families of Children with Type 1 Diabetes
Use this application to apply for a Family Scholarship for Friends for Life Orlando 2023. For this application, at least one child should have type 1 diabetes. For families in which a parent has type 1 diabetes, but a child does not, please select the Family Adult Scholarship for Friends for Life Orlando 2023.
Scholarship Opportunities for Friends for Life Orlando 2023 include:

  • Family Scholarship (family has a child with type 1 diabetes - this application)
  • Adult Family Scholarship (family has an adult or parent with type 1 diabetes)
  • Young Adult Scholarship (adults age 18-25 with type 1 diabetes)

This Family Scholarship can include:

  • One hotel room at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort (accommodating up to four people in the room) for five (5) nights (arrive Tuesday, depart Sunday), and
  • Conference registration for up to four (4) people.

Estimated Costs to Attend Friends for Life Orlando 2023
As you consider attending Friends for Life Orlando, we want you to know the estimated costs. These are general costs and will vary by family.

  • Conference Registration - $250 per person age 6+ includes meals (Wednesday evening dessert reception; Thursday breakfast, lunch, and dinner; Friday breakfast and lunch; Sunday breakfast), all sessions, all social events, admission to the Exhibition Hall.
  • Hotel - $189 per night ($945 total) Tuesday – Sunday. The hotel sleeps up to four people and is located within walking distance to the conference center, Disney transportation to theme parks, and Disney Springs.
  • Transportation - Varies by Family. If you drive, parking is free at the conference hotel.

Before You Begin
Before you begin your application, please gather the following items. You have the option to submit these to support your application.

  • Digital copy of your 2022 Federal Tax Return (most commonly Form 1040). We encourage you to have your taxes prepared before submitting your application.
  • Digital copy of your most recent W2 (one for each working parent or adult)
  • Email address for your diabetes care team to request a letter of recommendation (Required)

Use this application to apply for an Adult Family Scholarship for Friends for Life Orlando 2023. For this scholarship, you must be an adult (26+), couple, or parent living with type 1 diabetes. For Young Adults Living with Type 1 Diabetes
Use this application to apply for a Young Adult Scholarship for Friends for Life Orlando 2023. This scholarship is for young adults, who will be 18-25 on July 4, 2023, and are living with type 1 diabetes.
Included in the Young Adult Scholarships are:

  • The Stewart Perry Family Scholarship for Young Adults
  • The Kim Hislop Memorial Scholarship for Young Adults
  • The ADCES Scholarship for Young Adults
  • CWD Young Adult Scholarships

The 2023 Young Adult Scholarships include:

  • One hotel room at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort for five (5) nights (arrive Tuesday, depart Sunday),
  • Conference registration, and
  • Travel expenses in accordance with CWD's travel guidelines. Costs for additional people and other expenses are the responsibility of the recipient.

Friends for Life Seattle 2023
March 17-19, 2023

Use this application to apply for a Scholarship for Friends for Life in Seattle 2023. For this application, at least one attendee in your party should have type 1 diabetes and you should live within driving distance of the venue.

This Friends for Life Seattle 2023 Scholarship can include:

  • One hotel room at Renaissance Seattle Hotel (accommodating up to four people in the room) for two (2) nights (arrive Friday, depart Sunday), and
  • Conference registration for up to four (4) people. 

Transportation expenses are not included. Costs for additional people and other expenses are the responsibility of the recipient.

Attendees will also be responsible for their own dinner Friday and Sunday evenings.

Financial Need
Financial need is a component of prioritizing this support, so you are permitted to submit financial information demonstrating the need. In addition, please arrange for a letter of recommendation from your diabetes care team. You will need to enter their email address and our scholarship processing system will reach out to them to upload their letter. Both your financial information and the letter of recommendation are required to process your scholarship application.
