Volunteers are crucial to the success of Friends for Life conferences.
CWD relies on a team of more than 200 full-time volunteers to make FFL Orlando happen each year. We are always seeking enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to join our team of volunteers and fill a range of roles at each conference.
Please review the following information about volunteering at FFL Orlando and then complete the application form below.
There are a variety of volunteer roles at FFL Orlando:
- Youth program volunteers (full-time) work with children in the Kiddie Kove, Elementary, Tween, Teen, and Orange Team programs.
- Conference support volunteers (full-time) support general conference needs as part of the Registration Team, First Timers Team, Exhibit Hall Team, Adult Program Team, Sports Central Team, Tech Team, or FFL Support Team.
- Part-time volunteers help as needed during the conference, generally in response to one-off requests sent by the CWD team to support activities such as banquet/event setup. These part-time opportunities do not require a volunteer application. Requests for volunteer help are emailed to registered attendees closer to the conference (and sometimes during the conference), so please keep an eye on your email if you are interested in helping part-time.
Please click here to read the job descriptions for each of the full-time volunteer roles to find the role that is right for you.
Full-time volunteer expectations
Volunteers applying for full-time roles agree to be available during all assigned conference training and programming at FFL from Tuesday morning to Friday afternoon, with no exceptions. Our Program Leaders closely staff their teams to ensure they can safely and effectively fulfill their roles, and they rely on having a complete team to meet that goal.
Volunteers are also required to complete approximately one hour of digital training before arriving at FFL Orlando.
If you are unable to fulfill this time commitment, we kindly ask that you do not apply for one of these full-time roles.
Compensation for volunteers
All volunteer roles for FFL Orlando are unpaid positions.
For full-time volunteers, CWD covers the individual conference registration fee, which includes all meals included as part of the conference. CWD also covers one hotel room at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort for six nights (arrive Monday, depart Sunday). Younger staff may be asked to share a room with another volunteer of the same gender.
CWD does not cover conference registration fees or hotel rooms for part-time volunteers.
Volunteer selection process
All new volunteers must apply for their desired volunteer role(s) using the application form below. Please put some thought into your application and be sure to highlight your qualifications and why you are interested in volunteering with CWD!
The deadline for completing an application to volunteer at the FFL Orlando 2022 conference is December 31, 2021.
After the application window has closed, CWD staff and Program Leaders for each team will review the applications received and decide which volunteers they would like to add to their teams. Program Leaders may request a remote interview with volunteer candidates before making a decision. All accepted candidates will be required to complete a background check through Verified Volunteers before they can begin volunteering. CWD pays for this. If you are selected as a volunteer for 2022, we will send you information on how to proceed with this brief process.
Notification of volunteer staffing decisions
All applicants will be notified of volunteer staffing decisions in early 2022 (likely February).
If you receive a notification in February that CWD is waiting to make a decision until staffing needs are finalized, please do not be discouraged! Because the number of volunteers needed for each team depends on the final number of attendees (especially for youth program roles), some staffing decisions must be made closer to the conference date. We request some flexibility and patience on your part until we gain a better idea of how many volunteers will be needed need for each team. Generally, we will solidify and communicate the final staffing needs in May. Even if there is no additional staffing need for the team you applied for, there may still be opportunity for you to volunteer with another group.
